Political correctness Inquisition against professor Steven Pinker
The New York Times reports today on a shocking campaign to revoke the status of professor Steven Pinker of Harvard, the renowned psychologist, as a distinguished fellow of the Linguistic Society of America. In support of this, the letter cites tweets of his that use the expressions “urban crime” and” urban violence,” saying that these are racial dog whistles. This kind of appalling inquisition has no place in a free society or in the academic world.
Pinker’s scholarship is famous for many things, but what is relevant here, and the book from where these critics took quotes, is a great book called the better angels of our nature, which makes the argument that violence in the west has declined dramatically over the past hundreds of years. The only “bias” this book has is towards a less negative view of the human condition
