The spread of “Defund Police”

Suddenly there has exploded on my social media feeds today the appeal to “defund the police.” As friends know, and many have probably noticed on my Facebook feed, there is no one with a more upbeat and even pollyannish view of human nature than I. However, even I believe that if we had no policing in our society, we would collapse into anarchy. Beyond that, one could not imagine a better gift to Donald Trump, who must be overjoyed to hear about these efforts. We could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Stop this before it spreads!
